Celebrations of May

Life is so full of growth and celebration. I love getting to do these recaps of the month because it really helps me appreciate how much really did happen in a month. How much there is to celebrate. How far we have come in a short time.

I think the biggest celebration this month is my new book coming out!

It is such a wild place to be when I have been on the journey with this book for over a year now. From the outside, it might look like it happens fast, but there have been countless hours spent refining, editing, doing photos, formatting, and waiting.

Publishing a book is so vulnerable. I hope that it reaches just the people who need its message. I hope to encourage and empower soul-sick city dwellers that there is hope of a farm without moving to land. Maybe just maybe it isn't about the land we live on, but the posture in which we live. It is the marrying of growing food and raising animals to building community, loving and serving the people right in front of us.

Life Surge Spokane was another amazing celebration. We got to take a team of gals to soak up some business wisdom and be inspired. I am so thankful for people who are further on the journey, taking their time to pour into those a few steps behind them.

We took some family time away from the farm for our annual day trip to Silverwood. Each year, Kennedy gets her read-to-ride ticket, and we carry on the Silverwood family tradition. So thankful for the sweet moments we get to build memories like this.

Another annual event is the Modern Homestead conference. We met such beautiful people. We saw old friends, made new ones, and met people who know old friends. It was such a full weekend.

Farm and Garden

The garden is in full swing. June has given us our first raspberries, another batch of bunnies, and our very first cherries ever!! The bees are happy. The chickens are producing. With the heat, the garden is thirsty, but it is so beautiful!

Grow the city farm with us

These are some properties currently for SALE in our 17 blocks

I hope to see this neighborhood grow into a landing spot for people who want the farm life but for some reason aren't moving out of the city. There could be a million reasons, but no matter what the reason we are building a community here were there are hands to hold, people to ask questions to, neighbors know each other and knock on each others doors. A place where we have meals together as a community. We celebrate together. We grow food and raise animals together, in the city!

Last Month's Book Reviews

Untangle Your Emotions-Jennie Allen

I have listened to a lot lot of Jennie's work. I always appreciate her authenticity. She is brave to share her story and be so vulnerable. I am so thankful for authors like her that make me feel like I am not the only one who feels these feelings.

Wealth Surge- David and Jason Benham

This book was a quick and easy read. You might be surprised to know that I have a pretty low reading level (this is why I enjoy listening to books). They made a good case for building wealth and using it for good. It was an encouraging read.

Unreasonable Hospitality-Will Guidara

This was my favorite book this month and at the top of all my reading/listing. That is saying a lot! This is one of my new favorites.

Will's story was so capturing, he was a great story teller but also his mindset and posture in life is remarkable. His humility in striving for goals. Focusing on people, building a team, loving and serving while also being a wise and aggressive business man was so incredible.

Launching the Postmodern Well

The Postmodern Well is our dream for a community gathering place. A place for classes and gatherings. A place where people can get goods, materials and tools for their urban farms. We also dream of this space having a community garden. Our whole mission is removing barriers for people to grow food and raise animals in the city and we have been doing that in a lot of ways on a smaller scale but this will be a much bigger platform.
